Former NTV news anchor and the brainchild of the much famed programme ‘the trend’ airing every Friday, Larry Madowo, has won a prestigious award in the USA.
Taking to his widely followed Twitter handle, Madowo announced that his thesis on the Africa’s giant online shop, Jumia, has won an award on the Financial writings.
His thesis titled ” How Jumia ‘the Amazon of Africa’ failed to deliver in Columbia ” won the 2020 Philip Greer Award for Financial writing.
Larry disclosed that he had spent months reporting on Jumia’s first year on the New York Security Exchange from Lagos, Berlin, Nairobi and New York for his thesis.
The 9,000- word piece was supervised by Winnie F.Ò Kelly and was submitted in partial fulfilment of the degree of Masters of Arts in Journalism.
I pored over hundreds of pages, visited 5 countries & recorded hours of interviews for the Jumia project. I’ll keep the full thing until @Columbia gives me my degree (tomorrow!) but I published a short & sweet excerpt with the BBC https://t.co/SAqxklQo0Y
