Nyali MP, Mohammed Ali (Jicho Pevu) has called on the government to make COVID-19 testing and treatment free of charge.
Speaking on Saturday evening, Ali stated that there was no point of government threatening Kenyans with forceful testing of COVID-19.
His statement comes a few hours after Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho threatened to conduct forceful COVID-19 tests after residents failed to voluntarily take the tests.
According to Jicho Pevu, Kenyans have no problem with getting tested. They only have a problem with being told to foot quarantine and treatment costs if they test positive.
“Kenyan are ready and willing to voluntarily take the test. They are only being afraid of being slapped with medical and quarantine bills if they test positive “, said Mohammed Ali.
In the same breath, Ali asked Governor Joho to cease chest thumping and demanding for a lockdown. Giving examples, Ali stated that Mombasa residents would starve to death incase of a lockdown.
“In Kisauni, a mother was boiling stones for supper the other day. And we are not yet on lockdown. If a lockdown is effected how many people will boil metals and Iron?”, asked Ali.
He called the country government of Mombasa to use the 700M set aside to help find Coronavirus in footing bills for citizens who will test positive for COVID-19.
“Use the 700M to assure Mombasa residents that their bills will be taken care of and they will voluntarily take the test. Don’t threaten them”, said Ali.
