Nyeri town Mp Ngunjiri Wambugu has become a man under siege. This is after a series of arrests of Nyeri youths by security forces in an attempt to neutralize the alleged regrouping of outlawed Mungiki sect.
The remarks on the resurgence of the deadly group were made by the outspoken Mathira Mp Rigathi Gachagua and the Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri. In one instance, the Cs found himself in the middle of a violent intrusion of development meeting by youths accused of being members of outlawed group.
The aftermath of the meeting was an operation around Nyeri by security organs which saw hundreds of youths arrested. This appears to have rubbed youths the wrong way.
Vocal youth leader, Kariithi Wambui, while addressing a public meeting attended by Mathira MP, urged the police to arrest the Nyeri member of Parliament, Ngunjiri Wambugu. He accused the youthful legislator of organising youths to disrupt peace. The youth leader who minced no words on the self-ordained ‘Kieleweke’ Archbishop said that youths should not be harassed when those who incite them are spared.
