Why James Nyoro might be Kiambu governor before 2022

Most people know Dr James Nyoro as a well polished man in terms of academics. Some political scientists have argued that Kiambu people didn’t have confidence with Governor Waititu during 2017 elections.

However, the tagging of Dr James Nyoro as his deputy gave the voters confidence. Just like Mike sonko of Nairobi county, Waititu picked on a technocrat for a deputy. This was brokered by the now embattled Bishop Kariuki Ngari of Ekeza sacco.

The Deputy Governor James Nyoro is an Agricultural Economist from the University of Nairobi and London’s University Wye College. He was Country and Policy Advisor to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle Washington. He also served as the Managing Director of the Rockefeller Foundation for African Region based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Before joining the Rockefeller Foundation, He was the Executive Director of a Nairobi-based policy think tank, Tegemeo Institute, Egerton University. Hon. James Nyoro has also worked as Senior Advisor to the President in Food Security, Water and Climate Change.

He was also the Advisor to the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. James is an expert on food security both locally and internationally and brings in vast experience to the Kiambu County Government.

According to the landmark ruling made by Justice Mumbi Ngugi, any governor charged in a court of law is required to vacate his seat and the deputy to take over.

Kiambu governor Waititu has been a wanted man by the EACC. On Friday, Dpp ordered the arrest of the governor and other 12 officials on the grounds of corruption.

Should he be charged in court as directed by the DPP, Governor Waititu will be forced to vacate office and Dr Nyoro taking over.
