Narc-Kenya party leader and former presidential aspirant Martha Karua has challenged Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to order Nairobi County MCAs not to Impeach governor Mike Sonko.
Karua claimed that Uhuru Kenyatta was being hypocritical in the fight against corruption. His intervention on Sonko’s impeachment motion was jeorpardizing the fight against corruption.
Over the weekend, President Uhuru Kenyatta, held a closed door meeting with Nairobi county MCAs. The meeting which was attended by among others, the senate speaker, resolved not to impeach Sonko.
Earlier this year, Kiambu county Governor, Ferdinand Waititu was impeached on the grounds of gross misconduct and embezzlement of county funds.
Mike Sonko was also expected to suffer the same fate with the motion already tabled in parliament. Sonko had already been ordered by the court not to conduct any official county duties as part of bail terms.
Last week Sonko handed some of the county duties to the National government. He also appears to be very vocal in supporting the BBI championed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
Many observers have claimed his move to support the BBI could be the reason he has escaped the guillotine of impeachment.
Martha Karua further claimed that Uhuru Kenyatta was being discriminatory in supporting some corrupt leaders while distancing himself with others.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was very vocal on the removal of all corrupt leaders. He was quoted severally distancing himself with former Kiambu County Governor Waititu.
His endorsement of Sonko despite facing charges on corruption .akes the president contradict his strong position on corruption.
